Off-the-beaten path in Castello

The walking tour starts at Riva degli Schiavoni along the waterfront at St. Mark’s Square.

We will move into the Greek Orthodox district in Venice and then to San Giovanni in Bragora square; here in the beautiful Gothic church, where you can see Cima da Conegliano’s masterpiece, St. John the Baptist, Antonio Vivaldi, the famous music composer, was baptized.

Then we reach the imposing entrance of the Arsenal, the former military shipyard of the Republic of Venice, passing by San Martino Church. After this, walking along Garibaldi Street, a very popular area where many Venetians live, we end up at the island of San Pietro in Castello, the seat of the Bishop of Venice.
