Venetian itineraries
Not many realize that Venice lies sorrounded by a lagoon. The lagoon of Venice is, as a matter of fact, the largest in Italy and measures 550 square km.
It is a fascinating and magical environment, which in the recent past has not been protected as it should have been from industrial development: this has made clear how fragile it is. Today some projects are in progress, aiming at its protection, which you can learn about while sailing across it.
You can choose or combine the following: Torcello with its ancient cathedral, Burano with its colourful houses, Murano and the glass factories, San Francesco del Deserto and San Lazzaro degli Armeni with their monks.
A tour to the lagoon and its islands is also a way to explore the most ancient origins of Venice and its historical development.
duration: 4-6h
extra costs: entrance fee for Torcello cathedral, offering for the Franciscan or the Mechitarist monasteries; watertaxi or vaporetto
designed for: everybody, also children
