Venetian itineraries
Peggy Guggenheim moved to Europe at the age of 23 and spent her life together with the avant-garde artists of the time till the Nazis occupied France. On her return to New York she exhibited her wonderful collection in the art gallery “The Art of this Century” and started financially to help Jackson Pollock. It was after the war that she came to Venice, a city that never accepted nor understood her.
An art addicted that would invest her money and energy in supporting yound artists: that’s how she described herself. Works by the main art movements in Europe and in the US are displayed in this museum in Venice which was her last dwelling before she died in 1979.
The collection features works by Picasso, Braque, Kandisky, Chagall, Max Ernst, Pollock and more, including also Mattioli’s collection of futurist masterpieces: a perfect collection for a very extravagant and original art collectionist and dealer.
